    Engine building help...

This is the point of my original post. By the time you get everything exactly how you want it, adding up the cost it works out to about what a 302 swap would cost. I get that you may not have the resources at your disposal to make such a swap happen. My advice is build it how you want, it will...

    Off to the dark side...

My 99 grand cherokee gets 15-17 in town and 23-25 on the freeway. My Jeep liberty diesel got 26 mpg for the short time I drove it stock.

    Engine building help...

8Th digit of the Vin. X is ohv and E is sohc. The newer ohv has an 8 bolt crankshaft so you have a choice of a better clutch if you manual swap.

    Engine building help...

If it was my build, I'd use the 98TM heads and get a custom ground camshaft. I'd get headers too. I've had good luck with the MLS type, they handle abuse really well.

    Engine building help...

The 98TM heads have a fast burn chamber, the 94 ecm isn't calibrated for it. Some people have had no issues with those heads with the 90-94 pistons. Other people have reported pinging and needing premium gas. Engine Quest makes good heads, you will find them on Ebay

New garage at the Horwitz house

I've got a friend like that. Seems like an open garage door with a free sign pointed at it would move some of the stuff.

So, you need a bigger garage

    Engine building help...

This covers most of it, and the last message I didn't see till now has the pedal assembly you need, if you care to make an offer on them. https://www.explorerforum.com/forums/threads/completed-auto-to-manual-swap-1991-explorer.502845/

    Engine building help...

The ohv was available till 2000. To use a newer Block, you reuse the accessories, intake off the original engine on the replacement. Sensors, etc get transferred over. The M5OD is a massive upgrade over the A4LD. Your fuel mileage will go up 1-2 mpg with the manual.

94 Ford Ranger bucking hard at 3,000 Rpm's

I think what he means by off topic is, there is a sub forum for rangers which is where it should have been posted

94 Ford Ranger bucking hard at 3,000 Rpm's

I wonder if there's a 3k rpm Rev limiter in park or neutral like the newer 3.0? If so and the ecm thought it was in neutral it would top out at 3k rpm.

    Engine building help...

Some people have issues with pinging using 95TM heads with the 94 and older pistons. I'm not trying to talk you out of your build plan, there are places, and people that make engine swap harnesses. I've been down this road, rebuilding what I got, then the transmission goes out. By the time...

    Engine building help...

A stock 302 would give you the slight additional power you desire, and you'd have a choice of a better transmission.

Could you jumper the low pressure switch to see if the compressor stays on for more than 2 seconds?

New garage at the Horwitz house

a tarp tent and evaporative cooler was luxury back in the day. My single car carport has a new roof 12 feet high. I'm going to get a hoist that rolls on I beam. I'll have 2 beams so I can pick my car up if needed. I'll get a mini split A/C as well.

New garage at the Horwitz house

You married? Kids? I highly doubt it's a neighborhood conspiracy. When I look at the pictures of this garage, makes me realize what I'm missing. When I swapped transmissions in my van I remember laying on the hot concrete working. I'm too old for that now.

    E350 van/truck?

460 is a great motor, but it has a drinking problem. I agree that thing would be perfect with a diesel.

    Time to make a decision

Great motor if you have the engine bay for it. It would fit a 3rd gen, the VW 3.0 would fit almost anything
