Stalling from light after long highway driving w/cruise control

My '98 SOHC has stumbled like this every once in a great while for years (never stalled, though). There have been threads on this, but nobody seems to know exactly what causes it. Suppose it could have something to do with the fuel pump, but I'm not convinced as it runs very well otherwise.

    1999 Mountaineer recently purchased 259k

I like how these vehicles are smaller in size to the huge crew cab pickups and suv's that dominate the roads these days. Get a kick out of watching some people (especially, women) try to park those behemoths in store parking spaces. I try to stay far away from them when choosing a parking spot...

    1999 Mountaineer recently purchased 259k

Like the color combo. This generation of Explorers/Mountaineers have nearly gone extinct in my part of the country (MN). I rarely see one on the roads, anymore. The few that do trickle into the local JY's are a rusty, ratty mess that provide few useable parts. Feel pretty fortunate to have my...

    Rotor removal help

Yeah...it's called an axle nut. Don't recall off-hand what size it is, though.

    new member, new problem

Other than it being a little annoying, I wouldn't stress over it. Mine started doing that 1 1/2 yrs ago after I removed the lower strg column cover for whatever reason. Just haven't felt the need to try and resolve it.

Duralast vs Hitachi (OEM) IAC (finally solved high startup flare) + comparison pics

Yep, Hitachi is the way to go if you can find one. I noticed how scarce they were 2-3 years ago, but was able to locate one as a spare at that time.

HELP - Rusted Bolts with no head

I just tackled this job on my '77 Monte Carlo's exhaust manifold. Didn't have access to acetylene torch or welder...and, the Map-Pro (true map gas is no longer available) torch I bought was still not hot enough to do much good. The base of the studs were literally welded with rust to the...

Explorer won't start even when boosted

Just to get a comparative idea, -40C equates to -40F...and, that's damn cold! Your vehicle needs to be in top-top shape to start in that kind of weather. Just putting a battery tender isn't going to necessarily allow the vehicle to start. It will certainly help it to turn over, but I'm...

Explorer won't start even when boosted

Are you talking wind chill with these temps? I don't see temps like this when Googling weather in the Calgary area. Wind chill has little bearing on how your vehicle starts as compared to actual temps. Only thing it really impacts is, if it's sitting outside, the fluids will cool down quicker...

Explorer won't start even when boosted

Willing to bet that once the vehicle is in the heated shop and warms up, it will fire off like normal. Extreme cold like you're experiencing (is the -50C windchill or actual air temp?) can cause fuel line issues on top of the fact that the fuel/air mixture doesn't combust as well during...

Please help identify this part! (Pics)

Looks like the vent tube that runs between the inner tie rod boots.

Need Advice... best approach to replace fuel line pipe along engine

I removed a couple of them on '98's and had to access it thru the fender well, also. However, they were anything but easy to get to. Had to use a wrench and could only get about an 1/8 of a turn at a time.

1997 Ford Explorer - Left had side Control Arm

I discovered that after sliding that stubborn bolt out as far as you can, shoving the control arm inward (may need some persuasion from a mallet), the bolt will have enough clearance to maneuver it the rest of the way out. This was after I removed the retaining clips for the hard lines. Have...

Replaced IAC now really high idle around 3K. I think I just need to do idle relearn (?) Not familiar with procedure for '97 Explorer. XLT 4WD 6 cyl 4l

I had a high idle problem develop suddenly a few yrs ago on my '98 SOHC and a new IAC solved the problem without conducting any relearning procedure. Per recommendations on this site, I went with Hitachi's #ABV0052 who was original supplier to Ford. Unfortunately, I discovered shortly...

    Valve Cover Gasket Replacement

Appears the need may be near to replace the gaskets on my '98 SOHC. Can someone reveal the secret to removing the rear lower mtg bolt (the one next to the firewall and a/c-heater box)? Was at the local U Pull and thought I'd get the lay of the land (sort to speak) in removing the valve covers...

    2000 4.0L SOHC

There has been much discussion on the longevity of the SOHC on here. Nay Sayers think they're junk. Others have gotten well over 200K miles without problems. Mine has 191K miles and I haven't done anything extraordinary to get it this far without problems. Regular oil changes is about it. I...

Passenger door lock not working, weak?

Does the lock knob move easily up and down manually? I had a problem where the lock knob wouldn't move upwards with key FOB or door button...and, was difficult to pull upwards manually. Turned out the small spring inside the door latch had broken and was jammed and not allowing free movement.

lookin for cloth front seats for 95 xplorer eb

Cloth seats...or, cloth seat covers? You don't even want to know what it would cost for someone to ship you seats. What color? Have you tried area JY's? Have you tried browsing the website row52.com? They list JY's in your general vicinity of CA that participate on their site and list each...

    Source for cowl covers

I believe he is referring to the black plastic trim covers also called wiper covers. I just pulled a set at the JY within the past couple of wks as spares. Have to be very careful so as to not break the mtg clips, though. I actually attempted to remove four driver sides before I got one...

    Seat Belt Replacement (fabric\webbing)

I have some experience disassembling/replacing belt straps on my mid-70's cars whose retractors (and, belt straps that are stitched in a similar fashion) were used for assembly. Your video does not show that the new straps were stitched on either end when reassembled. This is not safe by any...

    Bent my back hatch!

I live in the Twin Cities and have yet to find a good used rear hatch at the local JY's that isn't rusty. We're also staring down this big snowstorm tonight/tomorrow and if it were me, I'd try stuffing rags in that gap to prevent snow from blowing inside.

    Limited Memory Seats

That's what I did. My '98 had non-memory cloth power seats and I found nice leather memory power seats in a '96 Limited. Just swapped the tracks from my cloth seats to the Limited seats.

Where is the voltage regulator located? Overcharging alternator, trying to find the cause.

I haven't bought an alternator for my Explorers from a parts store in decades. It's always been pretty common to find like-new replacement alternators at my local U Pull. Would grab one as a spare when they had their periodic 50% off sales for under $25.

    Side step Runners

If you are referring to what we commonly call running boards, the answer is no. You can sometimes find misc. pcs on e-Bay...otherwise, used from the JY is your only option; unless you want to try aftermarket kits. I researched all this last Spring when I was interested in obtaining spares for...
