How many miles on your 2ND GEN EX?

Been off this forum for awhile - I retired and am now busier than ever! I just did the 325,000 mile oil change on my '97 5.0 Eddie Bauer I bought in 1999 with 29K miles on it. It's my work truck for the car ministry i volunteer with - drive it almost every day! Carry around all my tools, etc...

2000 Limited 5.0, exhaust manifold/oil pressure sensor/oil level sensor questions

Further memory kicking in - I may have done the oil pressure sender at the same time as an oil change, so the filter was off and out of the way. Fair warning - my memory is not so good any more, so this all might be totally wrong!!

2000 Limited 5.0, exhaust manifold/oil pressure sensor/oil level sensor questions

I have replaced the oil pressure sender in my 5.0. I removed the tire and went in thru the wheel well; I did not have to remove anything else. Needed a long extension, though. It was not a bad job. Good luck.

Coolant Leak - Water Pump or Timing Cover? (Video)

Unfortunately, I did my 5.0 timing cover gasket work a couple of years ago before I heard koda about K-Seal. However, since then I have used it twice on donated cars our Car Care ministry was fixing up to give away. Both had small coolant leaks in very inaccessible locations and the K-Seal...

    Rear Diff Fluid

When Ford says "life of the vehicle" what they really mean is "until the warranty runs out!" There is no such thing as lifetime fluid.

    99 Limited has. no Heat

Once you reliably have coolant flowing thru the heater core, the amount of heat you get is controlled by the blend door. As the name implies, that door "blends" heated air and cool air (outside air or air cooled by the AC system if that is on). The blend door is controlled by the temp knob on...

    Lift gate will not open

IIRC the small plug on the top of the door covers a screw that needs to be removed. Then you have to unscrew the pull strap on the hatch. At that point, you should be able to pull the inside hatch cover off while the hatch is still closed. It's a PITA but doable. Good luck.

98 Explorer XLT- Auto Headlamps Not Working

Spray some electrical contact cleaner in the slide switch on the mirror and slide it back and forth a bunch of times. That worked for me when my autolamps started acting up. Good luck.

What are the relays behind the air filter to blower motor

I believe that you will find your blower relay and high speed blower relay in that box.

    "New" 97 Explorer

Look for broken wires in the driver's door wiring bundle between the body and door.

    fuel system problem?

Check your EGR valve operation. EGR should not be open at idle; if it does it cause those symptoms. Good luck.

2001 Eddie Bauer Explorer Start issues

Most likely a defective starter or starter solenoid. Operating the solenoid when you try to start it is putting a hard ground on the starter feed and blowing that big fuse. Good luck.

    Power Door Lock Relay Location

And notice that there are two unlock relays - one just does the driver's door and the other the rest of the doors and hatch.

No or little vacuum at the A/C control

Where the air comes out (defrost, panel or floor) has nothing to do with the "refrigerant" part of the HVAC system (condenser, radiator, compressor, etc). There is a small vacuum line that runs off the intake manifold to a vacuum reservoir (a softball sized plastic ball inside the right front...

When and why did 2nd Generation Explorers get rid of reclining rear seats

I have a '97 EB with leather and rear seats do not recline.

    AC directional switch not working...

You have a vacuum issue. The mode controller that determines which opening the air comes out of is vacuum operated. When you lose the vacuum supply the default position is defrost only. There will be a small black vacuum line that comes off the intake manifold, goes to a softball sized vacuum...

    ac compressor troubleshoot

Do you have manual controls (dials) or the EATC (where you just set the temperature you want)?

    ac compressor troubleshoot

Need to do some electrical troubleshooting. Best place to start is the low pressure switch, as it is first thing after the relay. Unplug connector and look for power on one of the leads in the socket - use a test light, not a meter. If you have power there, your console control and relay are...

    4WD lights flashing

Nope - those codes are stored in the RAP module, not the GEM.

    Multiple electric issue '96

My GEM was causing intermittent issues with the power windows and interior lights that I traced back to the GEM not operating the accessory delay relay correctly. Bought a used GEM from one of the forum vendors for $20-25; plugged it in and everything worked fine. I believe we matched up...

grouning sound turning left to right

Groaning sound while turning is often a wheel bearing; left to right indicates driver's side. Good luck.

    Noise from rear end

If you have to change a wheel bearing, go ahead and change out your parking brake shoes while you have the axles out. It is so much easier to do then!!

Yep - don't know what happened but those logons no longer work. Try ID "chattech" and PW "contract".
