Low idle, been chasing for years!

2000 (Manual trans., OHV) I have had a low fluctuating idle for years. Sometimes it will idle normal, about 700-750, but a lot if not most of the time it will idle around 500, or even drop lower, 300-400. Every once in a while low enough that it will stall. I have tried three different IAC...

My biggest Explorer project (4wd swap)...maybe!

Wow, it's been a while since I've been here. Things have changed. I have forgotten a lot too. I would of had the answer to a lot of these questions in the past. I've started searching around but I thought I would make a post. I still have my 2000 Explorer and drive it. I don't mind putting...

Would you buy the new Bronco if it had a manual transmission?

As most of you probably know Ford in 2020 is bringing the Ranger and Bronco back. The Bronco is supposed to be somewhat true to it's roots. Have a frame, solid rear axle, to be able to compete in the same class as Jeeps. Even though it's going to be more "ruggedly" oriented, whether they...

Would a mechanic try to fix the wiring?

Here's the deal! My Explorer is constantly throwing PO600, PO800 codes. PCM communication errors. Which in turns also throws a PO174, lean bank condition because of the communication problems. So possible causes are a bad PCM and bad wiring. I suspect it is bad wiring. I say that because...

Remove cable from parking brake pedal assembly?

I haven't found an answer to this. Only a couple places where people asked this but didn't get a response. I don't see anyway to remove the parking brake cable from the parking brake pedal assembly. Do you need to use Jedi mind tricks or something?

2003 Sport is no more - parting out

I rolled my 2003 Sport and totaled it. It wrecked the body but the mechanics are still good. The engine and transmission run fine and are good. As well as the interior. 2003 Sport 88,000 miles 4.0L SOHC M5ODR1-HD manual transmission gray interior 2WD The interior is good but most of the...

    Good A/C clutch+power+freon = A/C no worky!

After this winter the A/C on my 2000 wasn't working anymore. I investigated it some today. I jumped the compressor clutch and it is engaging. I checked the plug with a multi-meter and it is getting power. It has full freon. I checked the fuse and it's good. I don't know about the relay...

Am I the only one who has lost all faith in Sears/Craftsman tools?

Sears and Craftsman tools have been loosing my respect for years now. But up until recently I would have still bought some of their stuff if there wasn't a equal or better alternative for the price. But I think now I will probably purposefully avoid their tools. I think it's probably no...

    Speedometer Inaccurate on '03 Sport

I got my '03 Sport used with 33,000 miles on it with the factory tires. And it still has factory size tires on it. From the very beginning the speedometer has been off. At lower speeds around 30MPH it registers as much as 3 or 4 MPH faster than what you are actually going. As you get to...

    Unplug fuel pump electrical?

I'm trying to change the fuel pump on my '03 Sport. I don't know if it's different from older Explorers but how does the fuel pump electrical connection unplug? It doesn't seem like a plug at all. Since the tank is only half dropped it's hard to see but there doesn't seem to be any kind of...

I thought the fuel filter was clogged but...?

I drove my '03 Sport the other day after it had sat all winter. It had a weak battery so I jumped it. It was empty so I drove about 2 miles to the gas station and put about 6 gallons of gas in it. Since the battery was weak and did not have time to charge after 2 miles I left it running while...

Use same key in two Explorers?

I know you could put the same lock/ignition cylinders in two Explorers so they use the same key. But I'm not familiar enough with the PATS system to know if you could make it work. Could you reprogram the PATS module in two different vehicles to accept the same key?

Front driveshaft CV joint keeps failing - Options?

Ok, My Mom has a 2003 Ranger FX4, Manual trans., manual transfer case. It's fully stock. Last year the CV joint on the front drive shaft (transfer case end) failed at about 160,000ish miles. It looked like the boot just got torn up and it lost the grease. We replaced it. Now about a...

Summer 2012 DC/MD metro area meet & greet attempt!

Ok, it's been way too long since we had a M&G. Some have expressed interest in having one. So what is everybody's thoughts? When would be a good time for most people?

    cash for clunkers trade-in list

Does anyone have a copy of the cash for clunkers trade-in list? The actual website where you could get the list is no longer up. The name of the PDF from that site was "trade-in-vehicles.pdf".

    Making IFS truly independent?

Personally I think the traditional IFS system on the second gen. Explorers are completely pointless and holds no advantage over the TTB of the first gen. Explorers. Due to the sway bars which keeps the independent suspensions from working independently and completely defeats the purpose of...

'08 Escape, starts then immediately shuts off!

My sister's '08 Escape left her and her family stranded on the side of the road the other day. It just quit on them. It will start normally but then not run for more than a second then immediately shut off. The computer has been reset and it made no difference. Her husband was driving and...

Where can oil/grease come from on the CV boot?

The right front on my 2000 for a while has been sounding like the bearing is going out. While replacing the brakes on it recently I checked it for wheel play and could find no discernible play. I did notice that there is oil/grease on one rib of the CV boot that is getting slung around in...

What are some, how to find decent hub assemblies?

I've been looking online at Advanced Auto, Napa and other places at hub assemblies. They all have several different assemblies ranging from around $100 to over $200. First, why the broad range of prices between the different assemblies? Is there that much difference between the quality? How...

    Rangers and overhead consoles?

Will the interior metal roof on Rangers accommodate the bracket for a overhead console from a second gen Explorer like the second gens will even if they don't have an overhead console? Or would the roof have to be modified in order for one to fit? No Rangers came from the factory with an...

    Brake caliper rebuild kits?

Are there any brake caliper rebuild kits available for second gen. Explorers? I looked on Summit Racing and they didn't have any specifically for Explorers.

At the moment I'm doing some wiring on a bass boat. I'm wiring up a bilge and live-well pumps. Is it best to wire the negative or positive wire on the switch?

    Fiberglass questions

Does tacky resin after about 12 hours mean that I may not have mixed the hardner well enough? The thing is, all of the resin that is applied over fiberglass cloth is cured. Some of the resin that is spread past the edges of the cloth so it's just resin itself (it's not thick) is still tacky...
