    Dead

I pulled all the fuses under the hood, and under the driver side dash. It was glowing a dim brown.

    clean up help

I had the same problem a few years ago. I tried mean green, purple power, bleach. None worked all that well. I ended up going to advanced auto and bought a spray bottle of armor all detailing spray. I poured the whole bottle in. Shook it vigorously for several minutes and it took almost all of...

    1994 Explorer won't start

I'd replace the positive and negative battery cables. It's a pain in the a**, but well worth the effort. I've been having similar issues and thought the cables on my 91 XLT were fine. Once I removed the negative, the coating on the outside crumbled in my hand in some places. Even if it ends up...

    Dead

No aftermarket sound system or alarms. I did get out my multimeter to test the negs but it had already gotten dark. Going to test it first thing in the a.m. The bulb tester is interesting me. With the bulb, I should be able to see the light as I pull fuses and check wires. Thanks guys. Any and...

    Dead

I finally got around to changing the battery cables on my 91'. Major pain in the a** btw. I also put a brand new motorcraft battery in it, charged it overnight before installing it. Did a lot of running around in it yesterday evening since it's hardly ever driven. Stopped and started it quite a...

    Switch placement

Ok I'm installing off-road lights on my 91 this weekend. Can't decide where to mount the switches. Any ideas? Where have y'all mounted yours? Pics? Links?

    Top end rebuild

It does it all the time, but after it gets up to operating temp it's not as noticeable. I keep a mechanical oil guage in the truck at all times. When I said "keep an eye on the oil pressure" I meant that as I stop to fill up with gas, I can let the engine cool down and check the pressure at the...

    Top end rebuild

Ok. Put a new fender switch and battery cable on the gen1. It starts just as it should now. Thanks for the advice guys! Ok now for another question. I'm moving from upstate South Carolina to dallas texas. If I don't have time to rebuild my top end before the move. Will my x be ok to drive to...

    Top end rebuild

It turned really slowly. Like the battery was dead. Even had a guy try to jump it off. Still nothing. I went home and went back later that night, it started right up.

    Top end rebuild

Gaskets, and valve train. The old girl has been clattering for a few years. Haven't driven her much since it started. Luckily my job allows me to sleep at night now and I have plenty of time to finally work on it. Last few times I drove it, it's been hard to start. Last time I drove it it...

    Top end rebuild

After some thinking, and Nate turning me on to rockauto, I've decided that while I'm at it, I may as we'll go all the way. Got parts ordered, and will be rebuilding the top end of my good ol' gen1 this weekend. Hope I don't run into any unexpected headaches. I wanna thank the guys who offered me...

    Clatter

My 1991 x is making that signature valve clatter noise. How big of a pain in the a** is it to go in and fix? Is it possible it could be carbon knock? I've heard some people say that once they sea foamed it, the noise stopped. Maybe add some MMO. Any ideas?

    1991 explorer XLT 4x4

I've had this 91 exploder for a while now. I've had other 4x4 vehicles but all the work has been done before I got them. I've decided that since the 91X has always been a good dependable ride, that it deserves some attention. I'm goin to be swapping the auto hubs for manual here in the next...
