    89 Super cab with a 4.0 swap

Well this week was a mess lol. The wife had to come save me by bringing me my winch. But the winch wouldn’t work, I think the cheap Chinese power cables are corroded internally. So we used the wife’s super duty to pull it out. In the process of pulling it out, I broke the synthetic winch...

    89 Super cab with a 4.0 swap

This week I blew up the other warn hub and swapped out the rear springs for 6” lift springs. It feels weird to drive it now with a 2” rake. I blew the hub off while turning around on an old mine road. It was basically flat ground but I think I ran over a rock while backing up. I heard a pop but...

    89 Super cab with a 4.0 swap

Thank you, I just ordered a new sending unit since my fuel gauge isn’t working anymore.

    89 Super cab with a 4.0 swap

Well I had to replace the rear wheel seals and axle bearings. It started leaking so I went ahead and replaced both sides. The gears looked good and there was pretty much no metal on the differential magnets. Then my daughter helped me replace the o2 sensor and put the street tires back on. I was...

    89 Super cab with a 4.0 swap

Yep that’s my problem. The inner nut will turn upwards of 1/2” when I tighten the outer nut. Instead of trying to polish a problem, I think I’ll just upgrade it. I’m getting the codes 41 and 67. I said 95 earlier but I mis spoke, that was due to the fact that I disconnected the inertia switch...

    89 Super cab with a 4.0 swap

Thank you! I actually just went through the front end again this past week. The DS U-joint caps are spinning in the yolks and I have a new crack in the bottom of the beam just inside of the diff where it narrows hard then bends. I will add some .25” plate to reinforce it next time I pull it in...

    89 Super cab with a 4.0 swap

I checked the oil that day and the oil is free of gas as far as I can smell. After that the fuel mileage dropped to 10mpg and I got a CEL. It said there was an issue with the A/C switch and the IAT was faulty. I replaced the IAT and plugged the AC pressure switch back in, the fuel mileage came...

    89 Super cab with a 4.0 swap

Thanks, I think that’s what my problem was before. I put used injectors in that I cleaned. My exhaust smelled horrible but now that I replaced the passenger side injectors it fixed the exhaust smell. It’s running great now but my fuel mileage isn’t that good. I replaced the exhaust gasket and...

    89 Super cab with a 4.0 swap

New update, since swapping the injectors my fuel mileage has dropped to 11mpg. I suspect the culprit to me the leaking gasket at the collector by the O2 sensor. I’ll replace and reassess. If that’s not the problem then I’ll buy remanufactured injectors. The exhaust doesn’t smell bad anymore so I...

    89 Super cab with a 4.0 swap

Since the last post, I have been driving the hell outta the truck. A couple of the injectors started sticking again and the fuel mileage dropped off again. I tried two cans of sea foam and then two cans of Berryman’s injector cleaner. Nothin worked. So I pulled the intake and replaced all 3...

    89 Super cab with a 4.0 swap

I finally wired up the gang switch and threw some chincy labels on. The kids will probably pick them off the first time they go hunting with me again lol. But maybe it’ll give me enough time to memorize them before they do. Also added 2- double port USB chargers. Also finally broke the spare...

    89 Super cab with a 4.0 swap

Oh I forgot to mention, the Houndrunner is performing Daily Driver duties this summer. I had a lady pull out in front of me, the end of May. Totaled my F350 and I haven’t replaced it yet. So it’s getting 340 miles a week put on it, plus whatever I drive to go hunting. It’s doing pretty good and...

    89 Super cab with a 4.0 swap

I forgot to update my thread! So this was back in February maybe March I think. So basically the bottom of this creek was super soft but the banks were ice so I couldn’t get traction to get out.

    Coolant consumption

I’m a little late to the conversation, 410Fortune is spot on with my process of elimination and my diagnosis upon seeing your spark plugs. It is fairly common for these engines to crack or warp a head due to bad castings or over heating. I would also make sure to rule out a leaking intake...

    89 Super cab with a 4.0 swap

I splurged and bought a 12k Harbor Freight winch with a hitch mount. Then I swapped front bumpers. I ended up having to cut the old receiver off, then build a new one to fit the hitch mount. I used it the first day I went out lol. Only had to pull myself about 2 foot, but that 2 foot saved me...

That’s cool, most natives now days don’t use the traditional ways of naming their kids.

Oh, okay. I understand now. Do you know why her parents gave her the name? I assume she was born in the winter when it was a heavy snow year.

Thank you, I don’t know how much you know about hunting, but hunting is heavily regulated. We only harvest around 125 lions in Nevada each year. The state is divided into several hundred game management units. The Department Of Wildlife has set quotas for each unit on how many males or females...

    89 Super cab with a 4.0 swap

Yes sir, he is a beautiful animal and I will be honoring him by displaying him in my home and I am absolutely eating him! Here are a couple pictures from yesterday. The wife and I process all of our game animals at home. We treated ourselves to the filet minion while cutting and vacuum sealing...

    89 Super cab with a 4.0 swap

I’ve been trying to hunt as much as I can this winter. I managed to get the ranger big stuck that day. Buried to the frame in a 4 foot snow drift. Luckily I had my trusty hi lift jack. I jacked it up and packed snow under the tires then dug the snow out from under the axles. I was then able to...

Finally got around to installing AAL’s. I went withSuperLifts from Summit because they were $77 plus shipping. I added a couple bulk head fittings in anticipation of buying a winch to mount on a slider to use in the front or rear and got free shipping.

    89 Super cab with a 4.0 swap

I’m back! Been doing lots of work to the truck. I’ll have to go back through the thread and see where I left off and try to remember what I’ve done. Been doing a fair amount of hunting and I average around 250 miles per trip. I’ve tweaked a lot of stuff and I just ordered add a leafs to...

    89 Super cab with a 4.0 swap

Thank you, she’s really the best dog I’ve got. Yes sir, that’s why I’m teaching all of my kids to hunt. Well as they start getting old enough to go I will. My dad didn’t hunt, he only fished. I learned from my big brother a family friend and my uncle. My kids will at least learn it and they can...
