    2001 Explorer Sport 5.0 swap/Mustang ECU and T5 questions

Have these on my truck now. I used thicker aftermarket gaskets and had to notch the manifold ears to get spark plugs in, i did have to dent in one primary because of the tall valve covers I'm using, but otherwise they fit great?

    V8 swap issues.

So after 3 weeks of fighting this thing on my off days, I finally got it running again and home. The solenoid on the starter went bad while sitting which was disguising itself as a bad battery. Starter swapped out and it's now home. Did the same behavior on the way home, transmission acting all...

    V8 swap issues.

Nothing to report, battery was dead when I went to pick it up and shop was closed, so no chance of a jump start. Gonna try to get it Thursday..

    V8 swap issues.

Sorry for the long absence. New job got to me and I haven't done anything but try to get caught up on bills and now the IRS came outta nowhere with a 2013 audit. Awesome. For the engine harness I used a donor portion of harness and the two connectors from a junk yard vehicle and essential made...

    V8 swap issues.

I’ll definitely check those out. I’m off work tomorrow so I’m gonna go hunting for some 19# injectors and I’m gonna check as much i can on it.

    V8 swap issues.

Did not swap in a 19lb injectors, just the one 'faulty' injector that the tuner said was bad. Upon talking to him further, he said that in the small time he had the hood popped, all he did to diagnose the faulty fuel injector was popping up the spark plug wires and cylinder 3 removed showed no...

    V8 swap issues.

No real updates. Been outta work for about a month and just started a new job. Replaced the "bad injector" with a reman unit and still acting as before. Tuner seems to hear my "the fuel pressure is higher and the tune needs to be adjusted for that" and it goes out the other ear. After a few...

    V8 swap issues.

When i pull the upper intake I’m going to disable the fuel pump relay, unplug the ignition coils, and turn it over with a noid light plugged in to see if it’s shooting the pulses. At least it’s something to chase down.

    V8 swap issues.

All right so i went up there and talked to him and they looked at it. #3 injector is not firing. TO replace it I have to remove the intake which i didn’t want to do. Since i have to now, I’ll downsize to 17 or 19# if i can find a set for cheap. Will update when i have something to report.

    V8 swap issues.

Went by Friday, tune wasn't ready. I dropped it off last Tuesday. apparently the guy who does the tuning and such has an infection in his leg and went home Tuesday morning? Never heard back on Wed or Thursday, stopped by Friday after work, still nada. No call today either. Going up there...

    V8 swap issues.

Haven’t started it since i figured this out. Not trying to wash the rings out. I’m headed to the shop now with the programmer in hand. Gonna see if they can adjust the fueling and also their input on it. Going for an axle tomorrow. I hope.

    V8 swap issues.

I think the "fuel injectors too big" is gonna end up being the cause of everything. I got to researching on some Mustang forums and found a great thread, let me see if I can find it, but basically talking about what a few of you said previously. Injectors pulses at X pressure vs Y pressure...

FYI, finally got a fuel pressure tester. 64 psi when running, around 55 with engine off.

    V8 swap issues.

Well, the camshaft isn't getting changed at all unless I do a head swap, and that's a few years off if it ever happens. I doubt it will. Once this is all dialed in, it'll be a fun little truck.

    V8 swap issues.

Got called into work. Did not get it to the Mustang shop and tomorrow is my Monday, so I'll be able to take it up there Wednesday. Will post back once I have more news.

    V8 swap issues.

That I have no clue on. I did soak them in Seafoam for a good month or so before installing to try and combat any issues like that, but I know that's hit or miss. Before I head to the Mustang shop later on (it's MV Performance in Jefferson, GA btw) I'm going to check my coils just to make sure...

    V8 swap issues.

Yea, I found that interesting that there were two in line with each other. I've all ready run the hose to all of the coolers. It'll last me a few months until I get hardlines in there. I even thought about going all fancy and against the grain and piping them into the bed of the truck and...

    V8 swap issues.

Those look like them. They were well lubricated when installed, I even tested the fuel rail for leaks before installing. Primed the pump by jumping the relay, didn't wanna have to chase fuel leaks like I did when I did the timing chains on the SOHC the first go around (hence this swap.)

    V8 swap issues.

For the trans cooler lines I'm just using rubber hose for the time being. I didn't think the hardline tubing on the Ranger would fit so I tossed it when I pulled the motor. Bad idea. It almost looks as if the factory line would've worked with minor adjustments. Oh well, add it to the list to...

    V8 swap issues.

Probably 100-150 of soft miles. Been up to 70mph for about 2-3 miles. Without the trans coolers hooked up I've kept trips to a minimum. I don't know how fast the 4R70W can overheat and don't want to change it. But enough to know the gears work properly. I've got the speedo figured out, just...

    V8 swap issues.

Fairly positive. I switched gears and went to get the transmission coolers installed so I could drive it to the shop, it's about 15-20 minutes away, and I even had trouble with that. Bought 5/16 fittings for the transmission and the coolers are 3/8. So I called it quits. I'll do the ether trick...

    V8 swap issues.

All good to go. I'm becoming more and more convinced it's a tune issue. Autozone didn't have a fuel pressure tester in stock, so waiting on them to get one in that I can rent and check fuel pressure. Last vehicle I had with the P0171 and P0174, it was a failing fuel pump.

    V8 swap issues.

Who wrote your tune? I paid for a tune from the local Mustang shop, figured they'd know the 5.0 motor pretty well. Tomorrow I'm going to try and head up there and see what they think. I know we can only do so much through internet, just bugs me about how good it sounds when revving, but below 2k...
