Air ride shock absorbers, how do you remove and install the hoses?

I've changed the rear shocks before on a 91 so didn't think that page would help but there's a comment further down where someone else has a similar problem. Sounds like I need to remove a component or two to get to the bolts on the drivers side. Guess I'll give it a try this weekend. Thanks

Air ride shock absorbers, how do you remove and install the hoses?

Maybe I'm just missing something here but I took a quick look at the rear shocks on mine and don't see how you can really get to the top bolts on the shock. Looks like I have some of the air compressor (for the shocks) and other things up there. Is it easier than it looks to get to those bolts...

    Taskers Gap/Peters Mill (Virginia) Run

Josh - I've honestly never paid attention to cell phones on the trail so I'm not positive about them. I do know there is very little reception in the valley itself but the trail is near the ridgeline. Beepers tend to work better

    Taskers Gap/Peters Mill (Virginia) Run

Paul - if you're coming from Fredericksburg then you should be able to pick up 675 over in Luray (behind the airport) and come up over the eastern edge of the mountains. You then need to head up north a few miles until you get to a fork in the road. The left side is 675 and it goes over the...

    Taskers Gap/Peters Mill (Virginia) Run

Actually I'm an unknown since I'm still now sure what's going on with family things that day since out of state people will be in town. I'm only right around the corner, though, so it's not a big deal to run over there if I can

    Taskers Gap/Peters Mill (Virginia) Run

Just FYI there's a 40% chance of snow with an accumulation of about an inch on Wednesday night. If it happens and if it hangs around then that could make things fun

    Auto Dim/Auto Light Mirror

Great. I was hoping to find something like that. I meant to look last weekend but got busy. Thanks - I'll finish it up this weekend.

    Taskers Gap/Peters Mill (Virginia) Run

Just went by the trails and everything looked open at this point. There was a sign mentioning it would close in January to prevent cold weather erosion but I didn't see anything closed at this point. Lots of ATVs around For anyone who wants to camp (somebody mentioned that) the Powell's...

    Rear hatch key lock

Thanks - that might be it. Are those teeth on the actuator or the rod itself? Just wondering if replacing the actuator would fix it or if I need a new rod

    Rear hatch key lock

I don't hear a buzzing but I do here it make the usual noise like the rest of the door locks when the actuator gets power. That's probably what you're talking about. When I got the truck it would lock or unlock about 10% of the time so I figure either the actuator is loose or is going bad...

    Taskers Gap/Peters Mill (Virginia) Run

Yeah for camping follow the brown signs for Powell's Fort. I think that's open year round but I'll verify that this weekend too

    Taskers Gap/Peters Mill (Virginia) Run

Still not sure if I can due to family coming in. I'm going to try to be around but my latest Explorer has no real modifications yet and not a lot of tread on the tires so I'm not sure it would do well. Which trail are you planning on running - the one that goes north from Taskers Gap? I'll...

    Rear hatch key lock

Not to hijack this thread but the power door locks don't seem to have any affect on my hatch lock. It locks and unlocks fine with a key. I looked inside the hatch and everything seems to move fine but it doesn't unlock. Any ideas what I should look for? I'm going to have it open this weekend...

    Auto Dim/Auto Light Mirror

Interesting. I'll give that a try this weekend since I can't seem to find it under the dash either. I can see it back on the RAP module itself but don't wish to run a wire back there just for that. Just to finish it all off do you happen to know if there's a wire there on the floor that...

    F@#k Deer!!!!!!!

Sorry to hear about it. I hit one a number of years ago while driving on the highway. The trees were close to the road and I was doing about 75 mph. By the time I noticed the deer coming my swerve didn't help much. I think I hit it in the butt with the driver's side of the bumper and that...

    Taskers Gap/Peters Mill (Virginia) Run

There is a parking lot / gathering area at the top of the ridgeline on rt 675. There are also a few pulloffs and camping areas further down towards Edinburg if you need one.

    Taskers Gap/Peters Mill (Virginia) Run

While this may be the mountains more or less the temperature differential is only a few degrees from the northern Virginia area. Usually we don't get snow until the end of December but there have been unusual years

    Taskers Gap/Peters Mill (Virginia) Run

Yeah, I've been down it a number of times since I live only about three miles from the north end. Not too bad of a trail although you might want to check ahead of time to ensure it's open. I know they were redoing part of it a month or so ago because it had gotten all torn up

    Lifter Knock/Tick?

Yeah, I had the problem for years and never really gave it a thought. My understanding of the 1st gen rocker arms is that they're relatively soft and bend over time so the hardened ones both bring it back into spec and prevent the same problem from happening again

    Lifter Knock/Tick?

I agree that the rocker arms are probably worn since that was a problem I was getting ready to fix on mine prior to it kicking the bucket. Anyway you can get replacement hardened rocker arms from Delta Cam (deltacam.com I believe).

    Off roaders in VA

There are a few places further out west near 81. The mountains up there have many roads that aren't easily passable and there are a number of ORV trails.

    Steering wheel replacement

Hi. I've got a spare 2002 Explorer steering wheel and was wondering if it would work fine on a 1999 XLT? Have the wiring harnesses changed for things like the cruise control?

Info On Tire Pressure Monitoring Systems (TPMS)

Yeah I can see it not complaining if there isn't a high pressure warning but then they're also useless for their intended purpose since they wouldn't start complaining until the tires had lost about 25 psi to make the "assumed" 30 psi tires low. Too bad you can't retrain them for a different...

Info On Tire Pressure Monitoring Systems (TPMS)

What happens for larger tires? For instance the 31x10.5 tires I had before needed about 40psi to do a chalk test correctly. If I used the stock rims then the sensors would be almost useless and might even complain about too much pressure. Also what does the vehicle do if it can't contact...

    Disable Homelink when truck off

I don't have one myself but does anyone know if it requires power to store the codes? If not then you could cut the hot line where it exits the headliner and route it over to the overhead console to that switched power line.
