It's not cranking but can you hear anything when you turn the key (i.e. the relay click)?

I am weak on tranny issues but it sounds like a shift cable issue. Maybe got stretched/kinked and isn't lining up properly. Apparently the cable can be removed and installed pretty darn quickly (less than hour).

Get the codes from them. If the CEL/MIL is on there is a code. And reset as per the above.

How significant is the difference between the readings? And when you unplugged it did the scanner indicate a temp? Maybe the two are different sensors which are impacted by orientation.

If you have a 2 inch hitch (tow package) receiver than you're geared 3.73 stock; if you have the 1.25 inch than you're geared 3.55 stock.
