    Wobble

Alright...I figured it out. Replaced both UCA in the front and it still wobbled. Watch both rear rims and couldn't see a wobble. rotated back left for front right and wobble went from "fishtail" to the stearing wheel wobbling. Replaced front right wheel with spare, wobble disappeared...

    Wobble

My 02 Ex 4.0 4x4 (I guess that is important to know for help?) has a crazy side to side, lateral wiggle when accelerating from a standstill. Waddles like a fat chick. More pronounced at 20MPH. Once I get to highway speed, it isn't really a wiggle as much as just a vibration. I have replaced...

    Diagnosing rear growling noise

The "wiggle" test on the back wheels of 4X4 explorers is not foolproof. If the toe link is out, yet the bearings are good, the wheel will wobble around. When my rear bearings went out on both sides, neither wheel had any play. Took it to a shop and he did the "swerve" test that loads bearings...

2002 Sport w/ BAD vibration problem!! Need help!!

Might be silly to ask, but you checked the toe links and ball joints? Mine has been shaking like mad and i have had to replace both rear toe links and now the two front ball joints. I had wobble in all four of my tires, lateral and horizontal.

    Rattle on steering wheel

Yeah, thread necro I know, but have you replaced the toe links in the back?

How To: Replacing Upper Ball Joints on a 3rd Gen 4x4 [Pictures]

I would like to add that Advance Auto will price match Rock Auto on exact parts. I am getting two new UCA for $90.

    Air flow poor after fix

Yes..I just fixed the same problem. Only takes one disconnected vacuum to cause problems (i.e., my fresh air door fell off again because the actuator lost vacuum and sucked all the way in. I'd make sure all vacuum lines are connected. While my fresh air door fell off, my vents only blew out...

    Rear Lower Control Arm Bushing

Most definitely bolt slop in the knuckle. Putting the bolt in the knuckle without going through the LCA shows that I can wiggle that bolt around in there in nearly every direction. No amount of torque will help. The options I am seeing at this point: - New bolt - New knuckle - Bushes for...

    Rear Lower Control Arm Bushing

Well I tore it down today. Getting to that bushing is stupid easy. Just undo the lateral link and then the control arm/knuckle bolt and the axle swings up. Both rear bushing are fine. The left side doesn't have play, but the right side does. I torqued the right side down and it still has...

    Rear Lower Control Arm Bushing

http://www.oreillyauto.com/site/c/detail/MOO0/K200191.oap?pt=02936&ppt=C0106 Is that the correct part? It appears it does not require being pressed in by that picture.

    Rear Lower Control Arm Bushing

Preface this with the fact that I have replaced both rear toe links on my friggin vehicle in the past week as they had gone bad. I am pretty burned on the idea that those were "dealer only" items. Please tell me this is not the case with this part. The bushing in my left rear lower control...

    HELP!!! Tranny pan bolts shearing!

Does the side of the car matter? The bolt head was facing me and I was turning the bolt to the left (counter clockwise) under the left side of the car. If the bolt head is facing away from you, it would have to be loosened by going right instead of left. Also, I was using a ratchet with an...

    HELP!!! Tranny pan bolts shearing!

Laying underneath, the handle was going counterclockwise...I remember trying to avoid the exhaust pipe on the left side. Is that right?

    HELP!!! Tranny pan bolts shearing!

$200 later I have fresh fluid. Pulled away and immediately the 1st O2 sensor in bank 1 crapped the bed. Life sucks today, not just the truck but today has been horrible

    HELP!!! Tranny pan bolts shearing!

So shop took it this am, they are going to service ($79, they don't believe in flushing, only drain and refill). He said broken bolts are charged hourly. I just called and they said none of the others broke on them WTF!!! Anyway, fluid was shot, but no parts or chunks in the pan/magnet...

    HELP!!! Tranny pan bolts shearing!

Lefty loosey....I was turning them to loosen for sure. I'm taking it to a shop this AM to see if they will do this instead of me breaking each one off. I figure I'd have to PB Blaster the pan rail in order to keep any more from breaking....that sucks.

    HELP!!! Tranny pan bolts shearing!

Thanks for the reply...however, I was merely loosening the bolts...The two that broke are on the sides where there is a lip and the bolt ends stick up out of the holes. I am going to try and easy-out them. Why on earth were they shearing?

    HELP!!! Tranny pan bolts shearing!

I'm in the midst of a fluid change on my 02 explorer. I drained my tranny and went to take the pan off and the bolts are just shearing. I've tried two that both sheared in the tranny. What do I do and why are they shearing? Please help!

Miles on your rig with timing chain rattle

My 4.0 SOHC has made so many noises since I bought it that I am not surprised. It's supposedly not difficult to remove the valve covers, I would pull one and look at the chain. Wait, which one of the chains is in the front, left or the right? Never tore into mine.

Chugging at cruising speed on highway with A/C

My 02 4.0 SOHC is kind of chugging on the interstate at 75 with the A/C on max. If I turn the A/C off, it runs smooth. Is the clutch going out of my compressor?

    The rattles of a 2002 4.0 V6 SOHC 4x4...

Okay, I have been here for a while and thought I knew what I needed to about the "death rattle" in the SOHC 4.0 V6. However, a recent thread here -> http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=281405 has thrown me off. Can we get clarification once and for all on the rattles of a 4.0...

Miles on your rig with timing chain rattle

Don't mean to hijack. So if I only have rattle at 2500-2800 RPM, then it's simply the primary chain. It's fairly easy to understand why some of us choose not to have the tensioners replaced. Considering I assumed the faulty chains required a completely pull of the engine, I just assumed I...

Miles on your rig with timing chain rattle

So how do you know which set are failing? Mine has made the same noise for 4 years. How difficult is it to pull the timing cover? You have to pull the exhaust manifolds and the head covers, right?

Miles on your rig with timing chain rattle

I spent a whole day on here about a year ago looking for an example of a 2002 that had rattle and died. I couldn't find one. I bought it in 2006 with the rattle....Put many miles on it in the four years I have owned it, and the worst thing that has happened is the need to replace all four...
