I have a 2000 xlt and i don't have any way of securing my roof rack to my roof. The roof rack is held on by u-bolts to my roof bars and then the roof bars are obviously attached to the side rails. How do you guys secure your roof racks? Cables? My thought is in the back of my head is if somebody really wanted to steal any of our roof-racks i guess you could by just removing the roof rails. Thats if somebody really felt like going out of there was to steal it and be an #######.
I can't imagine you're going to have any trouble with roof rack theft in Allentown, but there really isn't much you can do. Like you said, if you cable it to the crossbars they can just take them off the roof rails. You could fab up crossbars that bolt right into the roof (I did something similar here: http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=291714), but that could still be undone with a ratchet and enough time.
