Bumper Bracket thickness

I ordered my 3" BL today (PA-853). I did some searching around and I saw that a lot of people were fabing their own bumper brackets out of 3/8" steel. Is that too thick? I also heard that the rear bumper brackets will fit my '95 X is this true? Some people say yes and other say no. So Im not 100% sure.

there's no need to make them any thicker than the frame. If you make super strong brackets, they'll just bend the frame-I'd rather bend a bracket than a frame.......

3/8" is overkill, not to mention harder to find and work with. The PA brackets are 1/4", as were my custom brackets.
