Popping sound when turning

My 91 Explorer makes a popping sound when I turn to the right or left. It sounds like each side is popping and it only does it 1 time until I make another turn. Does that sound like the ball joints need replaced? I also need to replace my auto hubs, I want to do the conversion to manual hubs. Where's a good place to get the conversion kits and what brand should I try to get? Do most kits come with instructions for the switch? Thanks for any and all info.............Larry

The popping is most likely you ball joints. To test that jack up the front end and put one hand on the top and one at the bottom of the tire and trie to wiggle it, if it seems to wiggle a decent amount then you need new ball joints.
