Are you sure the noise isn't from a loose component under the vehicle like a heat shield or something similar? Noises can be difficult to pinpoint sometimes. Peter

The reason the water pump is internal is because the transverse mounted engine left no room for an externally mounted one. Not a great design as it turned out. Peter
