OK, will leave it in there. Would it be a good idea to replace that volume reducing plug for a new one? If this does exist, It would be the original one.

Yes, thank you for confirming the torque. It looks like I'll need to purchase those thin metal gaskets as I don't think the sparks tensioners include them. Looks like I can get the OEM washers from tascaparts. Timing Chain Tensioner O-Ring Metal Gasket Another question Ive had is with the...

Help with timing chain parts for v6 SOHC 4.0L

Thanks for confirming. 👍 The torque on these manual tensioners would be the same as with the hydraulic ones? I believe it's 33 ft lbs. Would this be correct?

I got it. Thanks for that. Will surely keep an ear open as well after the install of the manual tensioners. It's interesting how the original hydraulic tensioners look so different from the front being longer to the rear being shorter. With the manual tensioner, I would be getting two of the...

Is it also possible that I may not even need to adjust later? If any future adjustments on the manual tensioner become necessary wouldn't I know it if I hear that tick tick tick coming back? And if I don't hear that again, then all is well? Good thing, I haven't picked up any tensioners yet. I...

Help with timing chain parts for v6 SOHC 4.0L

That was my thought from the start when I learned about the mechanical tensioners. Install this all at once with my timing chain replacement. Set it and forget it. :) Thanks for confirming that.

I'm sure I can handle the manual tensioner install. Seems straightforward. That was a pricey unit back when you first did this, but even at that I would have paid that much knowing this may likely prevent this from occurring again. I have so many projects that need my attention, so making this...

Thank you so much for that post. Better late than never. So nice to hear this from a veteran who's been down this road more than more than once. So at some point my original hydraulic tensioners lost some of it's tension thus resulting in that slack which lead to my broken guides. :( Such a...

Thanks for confirming. 👍 Will pick them both up soon and post a review on any notable differences if any. I spent a bit on other parts right now and will need to wait a few more weeks from now. Once I receive them I'll start a new thread/post as this one took a beating. 🤭

I wouldn't mind doing that. I like to make sure I'm ordering the correct parts. The one from sparks racing which I linked would be the correct part? The mechanical tensioner for polaris 1000 xp is the same fit like the ford oem tensioner. Is that right?

Thank you donalds, C420sailor and all others for the help. Anybody familiar with this Sparks Racing mechanical tensioner? Sparks Racing Manual Cam Chain Tensioner I'm not familiar with them although they seem like a reputable company. I don't know which brands would be considered best for...

Thanks for the reasoning. It does make sense. My thinking was that it would be easier to install the mechanical tensioner on reassembly when the area is more clear of any obstructions. Although I do see what your saying. And crank in flood mode would work (as a pre-oiler) while I'm breaking it...

Help with timing chain parts for v6 SOHC 4.0L

Would be nice to find a trustworthy source selling the entire OEM kit. Although that eBay seller shows the items will ship from New York, and his profile shows he's from China. I wouldn't feel comfortable ordering any of this from them. Everything seems to be re-produced (copied) nowadays...

Help with timing chain parts for v6 SOHC 4.0L

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the whole idea of going with a mechanical tensioner is to eliminate that chain slap during engine start up, yet by suggesting to temporally use my original hydraulic tensioners (after timing component replacement) the engine will have to continue enduring the...

Help with timing chain parts for v6 SOHC 4.0L

I am guilty of overthinking all this. I tend to to this with certain situations. I try and look at all the angles on any given task to be sure I got it right from the get go. OK. Thanks for letting me know about that. I'm going to go this route. The Mechanical tensioner it is. Question, if I...

That's reassuring to know. Another successful mechanical manual tensioner install. How long have you had yours setup and never needed to adjust this yet? When I purchased this mountaineer in 2001 I was intentionally looking for a 6 cyl suv. I didn't want an 8 cyl at the time. And given the...

I like the idea of the mechanical tensioner. A set tension which never requires adjustment, although you mentioned "chain stretch" which I imagine would require an readjustment (if that was ever to occur). Although If the chain were to stretch some then you would likely hear it again and just...

Good point there. Your thoughts are one step ahead of mine. OK, let's assume were are working with a known good or new hydraulic tensioner which is functioning well. Ah, yes, I didn't take that into the consideration, the chain stretching. So many contributing weak points in that timing system. So if the chain does stretch after some time, shouldn't all the tensioners be able to automatically adjust for proper tension? Now taking the likely hood of the...

Thanks for the reply. Trying to figure this out. Can you post a link for the ones on eBay? The link I posted was a bit pricey at around $125, although I wouldn't mind paying this if it works as intended. I can't figure out though if there is some type of adjustments that need to be made with...
