2002 Explorer starter relay

2002 Ford Explorer V8 Eddie Bauer - Does anyone know how to test the starter relay? Also, where the solenoid is on the firewall? Have replaced starter and battery. Still will not start and am not hearing any clicks when the key is turned on.

I don't know exactly where the starter relay is on an '02, but if you follow the + cable from the battery, you should be able to find it. The + cable will lead to the relay, and the other cable from the relay will lead directly to the starter.

I would test the relay by disconnecting both cables, then measure resistance across the terminals - should be open (high resistance). Then apply +12v to the signal terminal (small wire) and you should get closed circuit (low resistance).
