My BABIED 98 Mountie 5.0 AWD threw a P0340, cam position sensor. Cleared the codes, disconnected the alternator, drove it, P0340 reappeared confirming the CPS. Took off the CP sensor. All the metal parts were destroyed...in pieces. Then I looked at a pic on this forum of the top of a cam sync gear and noticed a semi circular shaped piece at the top of the cam sync gear. Mine had none. Pieces lying on top that I vaccuumed out. Well, I put on the new CPsensor. Of course, the P0340 code came back. The car runs smoothly...quite nice actually. What is the danger of running the car without the CPS functioning correctly. I am not confident in finding TDC to replace the sync gear and right now money is tight. Options please.
