I have a 5R55W. I just did another Trans Filter and Fluid replacement at 120K. I wanted to adjust the Bands on the Trans to make sure everything is optimized and I'm glad I did. I highly recommend doing this on these aging vehicles because mine drives mint like new.
It's actually pretty easy to do with the hardest part is backing off the Jam Nut's over the rusty threads of the Adjuster Bolts. Just gets some Penetrator and work it.. To make room for yourself you'll need to disconnect the U-Joint from the front Differential with a T30 bit and the Driveshaft will swing out of your way. Wrap some Tape around the End Caps so your Needle Bearings don't fall out.. Torque Spec for those Bolts is 13 ftlbs. Also, remove the 2 Bolts for the Shifter Cable Bracket and you'll be able to work around it.
The Adjuster Bolts are a Square Drive, so you'll need a 3/8" drive-5/16" Female Pipe Plug Socket
Clear the Memory on the Computer so the Vehicle will relearn the Shift Points and be amazed...
