I can't claim ownership of this idea. I had an old Ford tech (way back then) many, many years ago show me this.
If you have ever tried to install an engine or transmission when the engine has a motor plate that covers the back of the engine, you know how frustrating that can be as it can fall off the dowels at the most inopportune times. So to keep that from happening, put the plate in place. Take a center punch, and "punch" the plate right next to the dowels. Do it in two or three spots around each dowel. This will "swedge" the plate to the dowel and hold it tightly in place while you install the motor or trans. Try it and see!
