Time to go modified - what is the strongest trasmition I can install

Until now we have a stock 2002 Limited 4.6 Explorer. I am on transmition #4 . Towing is not working out well. Daily driving eats up these trans. So, where do I find the information needed to get the strongest most reliable trans for my 02? I will provide an example using my life long love the...

Why do I burn up so many transmitions?

Thank you very much for the replies. I have also heard from others as well as the dealership repair sraff that this year (2002) had a very bad trans. Lots of problems. On older trans from the muscle car era there were ID tags and serial numbers to ID the trans. Will these have the same? Then the...

Why do I burn up so many transmitions?

Before I begin please understsnd I am a very good home mechanic but am stuck back in the 60's muscle car era. So many of my issues revolve around newer technology electronics and truck towing. I am learning as quick as I can but every now and then I get stumped. We have a 2002 Limited 4.6. I...

    Not so new??

I registered some time back but have mostly been reading. Time to start some posts threads and get to work. This is our 2nd Explorer. The first one hand a run in with an uninsured deer. It was a 1997 302 limited. Loved that truck. Now we have a 2002 4.6 limited Not as thrilled. On our 4th...

    Parts store

Moog is the only brand I trust. I have had house brand ball joints or unknown brands come apart. Rick auto has good prices and the Autozone coupon is good too. Oriely has the best price but their parts are never in stock and always used. I mean used. Nasty greasy old parts in the box. I stopped...

02 ford explorer issues idle and drivability

The big hitters are normaly the mass air flow sensor and the throttle possition sensor. The computer does not use info from the MAFS until 5seconds (i think maybe 15) after starting. Since you must flutter the throttle that rules out MAFS for now. I have a similar issue but mine starts fine (now...

    2002 Explorer will not start

Found it. The end broke off the signal wire attached to the solenoid. A 12 cent part that stranded my family. All fixed! Now on to figure out why it is running rough. That will be another post http://www.mercurycougar.net/gallery/data/500/ExplorerStarter.jpg

No Start Situation - I'm Stranded

Oops.... for some reason none of the replies showed up. My phone is funny like that. I will run through all the steps you did and hope I hit the winning step. Very glad you are on the road. My Ranger does exactly what you had every 4 months or so. I put in the felt donuts and sprayed the...

No Start Situation - I'm Stranded

same issue same year Must be a curse. Here is what I have done so far and what I think we both need to do. 1. I took my battery to Autozone to have it tested. Even s bsd battery can read 12v. In fact it should read 13.8 or more. Try turning on the headlights and test the battery. This will put...

    Howdy All

It is time to begin working on my 2002 Explorer to save some $$$. I have been working on cars as a hobby for 30+ years. However the newer stuff have some quirks I need to brush up on. My area of expertise is 1969 Mercury Cougars and the 351W engine. I can build one of those with my eyes closed...
