2000 Explorer XLS, V6 Rough Idle, Multiple Codes

How does the oil look on the dipstick....and is level high? How does the exhaust look?...any steam coming out exhaust after warmed up? Wondering about possibly cracked head. Might want to remove plugs and examine, smell for coolant.

2000 Explorer XLS, V6 Rough Idle, Multiple Codes

I've read a partially clogged fuel filter can trigger about half of those codes....as for the ticking, is it possible it could be a loose heat shield vibrating at idle ? ...or exhaust leak.... JUST occurred to me while typing out this post....the ticking COULD be a compromised plug wire causing...

    1998 Explorer 5.0 “Restoration2021” project

If you should HAVE to go ...make sure you are well funded!....it's now $5.00 just to walk in and muddle around in the grease and grime. ...and they try to sneak in 30 day "insurance" to your purchase without asking.

    1998 Explorer 5.0 “Restoration2021” project

/\ Score ....prices at junkyards here in Calif shot way up...that would be like $30 here nowadays. A few years back when they were still very reasonable I got a spare dash bezel for $10 being my external (window suction) GPS for my Jeep kept coming loose and falling down.... so screwed it into...

2000 Explorer XLS, V6 Rough Idle, Multiple Codes

FYI, smoke coming out the IAC is normal during a smoke test as well as the throttle body plate....but not the TPS, throttle position sensor, did you have the air intake hose off during test?, thus is it possible the smoke you saw near the TPS was just some creeping up from the throttle body...

Do NOT buy anything from this Ebay company > ECCPP-AUTOPARTS

    EXPLORER SPORT EXTERIOR TRIM SOURCES

I don't have a definitive answer for you, but on my fender flares (same early half Explorers 95-97) these clips were used to hold them on, my guess would be Ford used the same / similar clips for the trim piece in between. Being I was removing flares permanently I aggressively "peeled" flares...

It happened again, another Explorer followed me home.

Did you go over / paint that lower plastic side cladding ? Looks darker ...maybe just due to shade alone..

And yet another intermittent no crank no start - solved

    De-Bauering the Explorer

/\ Thanks, I recall the 90's full size Bronco's cargo shell had a mild textured surface and many truck shells as well...gives it a more off-road look versus just smooth paint on D pillars....IMO ... so I ran with it....and it conceals minor imperfections underneath, don't have to spend time...

    De-Bauering the Explorer

So here is end result ( keep in mind paint is ravaged from being a beach vehicle...although So Cal ) ...not an issue being it's secondary vehicle / off roader. Old TAN pin striping removed. Went over sun ravaged rear cargo window trim with Plasti-dip SMOKED, I know a lot of people complain about...

And yet another intermittent no crank no start - solved

Do the old-school test too, at night (or with something blocking out sunlight around headlights) try to start it with headlights on, with someone watching them, if they dim while trying to start, with NO cranking happening at starter, that pretty much confirms the starter is the problem, starter...

1999 Mounty 5.0 aka My Great Bad Idea

That's the way HALF OF US on the forum feel about our Explorers! it's a love / hate thing....usually more hate... :)

    De-Bauering the Explorer

That was much considered but being desired minimal cost investment --going with rattle cans was too risky with the flares, granted the bumpers turned out good, I think mainly due to the "2x" Rustoleum spray ....the sides not so much....some tiger stripes...the textured black I used isn't...

    De-Bauering the Explorer

The looks/ tan color was intentionally overlooked due to the main priority / requirements was getting a relatively lower mileage 4.0 ohv 4WD with an attractive price...and the fact that p.o. had the transmission rebuilt and got this for $1,200 fit the bill. Had it came with the metallic gray...

    De-Bauering the Explorer

So finally got fed up with looking at the Clark Griswold / aka Eddie Bauer TAN trim....nothing SCREAMS 90's like having TAN fender flares, trim, bumpers! Tomorrow when tool arrives will then remove pin striping as well.....then to go over ravaged paint with Turtle wax Black Car Polish / crack...

    Repair or retire it?

I second JC's suggestion....not that it's extremely common, but the Explorers / Rangers from this era are known to occasionally start leaking out of dated filler tubes...happened on my mid 90's Ranger, and that was a So California truck too. Can replace them without dropping the tank.

Belt Tensioner Bolt | Normal... or Left Hand... Threads?

Not sure if this helps, but the 95 4.0 OHV is standard threads, lefty-loosey. I'd image Ford would stick with that in the 2nd gen, but of course there's always a rare possibility. Being that it's not a centered bolt on a rotating portion itself (e.g. cooling fan) I'm sure it's standard.

    Is using sealant necessary?

I despise those "tension bands" ....always have to fight getting them off and on... I guess if I wasn't so cheap I'd buy the proper tool for them versus adjustable pliers, I usually replace with hose clamps after removing them. Vent over.

Is 1995 Explorer one of a kind

"but they are from Mexico or because they are from Mexico? ...they told you it wont work ? That's the part number ( Carter P74159 ) that stated it was for my US Explorer back a couple years ago when I needed one...and it installed / fitted in fine.
