It happened again, another Explorer followed me home.

@Fix4Dirt My '00 Limited gets somewhere in the scope of 18-19-ish. The onboard computer claims 19.2, goes back and forth between 19.1 and 19.2 in town. It used to read 20-22 before the lift and A/T's. My '99 Sport never got more than about 17 (the best my math figured, at least), even before...

@DemonMudder That's cool, there's plenty to do and see, and traveling with the group isn't mandatory. The first time I came here I was solo, and I didn't have any trouble finding the way around. I'm sure the GF will appreciate it if you don't spend the entire time driving, too. As far as...

    Project Vulture

@TribeZ Nice pick! I haven't heard any complaints about them anywhere, except one, that said they warped really badly. My guess? Didn't follow the break-in instructions. Don't know, might have just been bad luck, or there could have been other contributing factors. I expect that we...

    Uwharrie 2024

Updated the list of prospective participants. I don't mean to always be on about those guys, but if I'm to predict based on past experiences with them, they will most likely end up doing their own thing any way, so hopefully there won't be any trouble.

Power Stop K1861-36 installed and broken in. Boyo, these suckers are strong, next to the dead ones that were on it before.

Do NOT buy anything from this Ebay company > ECCPP-AUTOPARTS

I avoid eBay like the plague, and I strongly suggest every one else to as well. Little policing on listing descriptions, and the company doesn't hold sellers accountable to make good on poorly described offers.

NC STATE HIGHWAY PATROL BUYING 25 2024 FORD MUSTANG COUPES

@Fix4Dirt I heard this was happening. I had not heard that it was just for good old times' sake.

    Project Vulture

Had minor qualms about ordering the K1861-36 after hearing about deliveries with battered boxes and missing parts, but wasn't disappointed. Front rotors and pads came yesterday, rear rotors and pads came to day. Wasn't supposed to be here until next Monday. All of it came, all of it was...

    Upgrading Gearing with 35s

5.13's all day every day. I'm running a 2nd-gen so I can't be absolutely sure of how the 1st-gen transmissions are geared, but I'm running 33's on 5.13's (the RPM's game is real, I gave up driving faster than 50 MPH) and wouldn't go back. If your rig is a dedicated off-roader, the 5.13's are...

    Project Vulture

@DemonMudder Now that's a thing I'm going to leave good enough alone. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Having a spare at this age might not be a bad idea, but it's not leaking (somehow). Those are definitely better brakes for handling those fat rubbers. Nice tread pattern, those wide lateral...

Getting the most out of what I have

Junk yards (or other used parts distributors) can often get spare wheels for a lot cheaper than you'd pay for a "repaired" one. Personally, I keep the spare strapped down in the back of the truck when off-roading. Lower center of gravity than keeping it on the roof, more clearance than keeping...

Getting the most out of what I have

@toobladink I'm late to the party, but OSPHO is another product you might look into. I'd trust 410Fortune's Permatex though, he's been doing this. Tires, only ever LT. It's a light truck, they make tires for these for a reason. It's a truck and it's designed to be used like a truck, give it...

Getting the most out of what I have

@toobladink Would absolutely recommend grabbing a second Explorer for street use. That's exactly what I did, but the environment is mean here, so a moderate lift and all-terrains for the street truck just kind of made sense. I'm pretty sure you can get the RTZ keys separately from the...

    Uwharrie 2024

Updated the list of prospective participants. @DemonMudder Hi-Lift isn't the only brand that makes them. I got a farm/utility jack that works in the same fashion, although I haven't ever needed or attempted to use it for winching. Sure is handy to have for tire rotations though, some thing...

    Uwharrie 2024

Updated the list of prospective participants. @DemonMudder If you want people to call you some thing other than DemonMudder, either enter your player name here, or prepare to be for ever called whatever infantile nickname comes to mind when I first see you (don't think I won't!).

Getting the most out of what I have

RTZ lift kit comes with re-indexed torsion bar keys allowing for up to 3" of added height, and shackles with holes for 1.5" and 2" of added height. Link: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01L629B0K/?tag=seriouexplor-20 I chose these because the alternatives were cranking the bars with the...

It happened again, another Explorer followed me home.

OK, since everybody else shared their stories here, it's my turn now. Before I had a car, I offered my ma full blue book value for her Durango for years, and she always said no, no, no. I grew up with that truck and loved it. Found my '99 Sport by accident when looking at a Durango that...

Getting the most out of what I have

Edited previous post to include more information. No, the spacers actually cause clearance issues on the outside, which is why cutting the fenders was necessary. The wheels fit much better without the spacers, but I needed the stance and couldn't justify ordering custom one-off wheels with...

You gotta, uh, break in the timing chains! Yeah, that's what we'll call it.

Getting the most out of what I have

@toobladink The 16x7 stock rims on my '99 Sport (teardrop style) had 3.75" backspacing. Don't think about offset, it's just a more complicated way of measuring backspacing. Offset = distance between center line and mounting surface Backspacing = distance between inner lip (hub side) and...
