Lifts and max tire and wheel sizes for explorers
This is a quick reference guide I have put together based on information gathered from the Explorer Forum. Remember this is just a guide. You may have to do some fender trimming to fit these tires on your explorer. Others things can change what size tire you can run on your explorer. Like fiberglass fenders, rim width and rim backspacing.. I figured this would help some of you that were pondering what size lift to run what size tires. If anyone would like to add something go ahead and post it and I will add it to my list. If any of the moderators could make this a sticky that would be great. Hope this helps.

ok so to get this straight, i would losin that bolt and push the bars out as far as they will go or about how far out

also, would the tires get cut up in ANY way as into the body or watever

No. Tightening lifts the truck, loosening lowers the truck. Just tighten the adjuster bolts until you reach desired height. Don't go higher than 2", and you'll probably need an alignment after adjusting.

if i take it to a shop and say that i need this done, wat exactly do i tell them i need done to make the tires fit and all

It's best to do the TT lift yourself then take it in for an alignment. It should only take you about 10 minutes and it's free and easy. You also get the height you want.

when u tight then bars, do u need to have the truck on a lift. and should i get the alignment right away. how high do i raise the truck exactly and how do i know when to stop

and does it raise the enitire truck

Please read through the thread linked to above. There is also a write-up on the main site's tips page, accessible from the pull-down menu towards the top of this page.

It would be easier to lift the truck up just so the tires are off and no stress is on the front end. You will probibally only need to adjust the front about an inch for 31's but maybe more. Dont go more then 2 inches. I would recomend an alignment check sometime soon after you do this since you are getting new tires. More then likely you wont need an alignment but better safe then sorry.

ok got that all, were do i get the lift thing for the back end? like is there a site that i can get it from or ??

how easy is it to put on the shackles.. also they should give a 1-1/4" lift correct?

Somewhere between that and 1.75" usually.

There are also instructions for that install somewhere on this site. You just need a jack, a few jackstands, ratchet, penetrating oil, and some muscle. It's only 4 bolts. Takes most people a little over an hour the first time if none of the bolts are stuck.

alright man, thanks for all your help, i really appriciate it alot, now i can get those tires .

do i need add a leaf thingy or just the shackles?

Probably just WAR153.
