Hey everyone, I saved a 94 explorer from the crusher last week. It came with transmission issues and wont shift out of 3rd gear without bringing the RPM's up to 4000 then letting off until it drops to 2000. From the research i've done so far the 3-4 solenoid is a notorious problem part. So I pulled the transmission pan off to check the solenoid which measured at 26.6 ohm's, but I found 2 parts in the tranny pan I can't seem to identify.

The part on the right was originally attached to a band. The part on the left is a band apply strut. You have to rebuild the transmission in order to replace these parts if it came off of the intermediate band. You can get away with just replacing the band if it came off the front overdrive band. This part is just a little past the front bellhousing & pump.
