Volvo What a dipstick

My daughter bought a Volvo xc60 SUV.

During a recent visit her "critical condition- oil level " warning appeared.

Guess what? No dipstick. Nada. Just a plug in a hole where one should be. Owners manual says add a quart. Wow.
Search shows this is a major issue. She pressed it and got a letter authorizing 13,850 dollars for engine replacement if dealer determines engine damage. WTF??

That is unbelievable. Sounds like Volvo needs to re- think that stoooopid.. Hard to figure how the cost savings of no dip stick out weighs replacing engines at 14 K a whack.. WTF is right.
