1997 Ford Explorer Moonroof Shade handle repair

Has anyone else been faced with and found a solution to replacing the brittle plastic handle with vents after recovering their moonroof shade when recovering their headliner?

THe plastic is so brittle from sun exposure that it has cracked, shattered in dozens of places - even after a complete tube of epoxy I'm not certain it will go together and hold for any length of time.

Other than cutting out some plastic or lexan stock to somewhat match the opening - what have any of you folks done?

Appreciate any with experience repairing/modifying -
I want to keep this driver on the road.

I have the same issue. I've heard though that the later model sunroof visors have a different style handle that is more durable, but you'd have to pull the entire visor out of a junked model. Let me know what you figure out.
