Greetings all:

I have read in several places that the rear caliper slide pins should not be touched when replacing pads unless a problem is suspected. The claim is they are sealed for life and do not require servicing. Examining the replacement dust boots I have in hand and illustrations of the rear pins, I can see they are designed differently than the fronts. But I thought a thorough brake job includes cleaning the pins, checking the dust boots for damage and lubing with new grease. Does anyone have comments regarding this contradiction or suggestions? Thanks.

I've NEVER done a brake job where I didn't replace both the sliders and the boots. They're too cheap to leave OE and risk causing $200 to go down the drain.

Always replace the boots and always grease the sliders.

you have to remove the caliper pins and lube them everytime you change pads. use caliper grease. if you don't lube them they will go dry and your caliper will not slide easily and you'll have uneven wear on your pads. don't use anti-seize since they gum up.
i only change the boot if they are cracked.
