Hi
Cause ive never seen any DIY working report about shocks replacement (nor the whole strut asy) here is my job summary:
1.Safety first.work according to workshop manual safety demands.never work without jackstands supporting the car chassis
2.remove rear wheel
3.remove strut tower nuts, strut bolt, stabilizer link, control arm, knuckle upper and lower bolt and release adjustment rod after control arm supported by floor jack.
4.then take the whole strut asy out carefully (abs wires ahead)
5a.now support your old shock asy in order to remove rotation
5b.after coil spring compressed by universal coil spring tool ,use 17&8mm wrenches to release strut nut tension.dont try to release strut nut tension before coil spring freely rotated by hand.
6.remove upper bracket and replace insulators if needed
7. Remove strut dust cover and remove coil spring out of the assembly
8. Upper bracker alignment: make sure one of the bolts approximated perpendicular to the lower shock eye hole.
can be marked or so.after strut aligned tighten shock nut and release spring tension.
9. Torque and loctite everything by oem spec
Ready to go.
Original rear shocks cat number:
Aftermarket upper insulator cat number:
