When rolling along slowly I heard a sound like something metallic, rubbing, similar to a bad wheel bearing. I looked underneath and saw the driveshaft must have been rubbing against the edge of the fuel tank (I can see the shaft is "polished") while the rest of the the shaft is quite dirty. And, the output seal from the transmission is leaking.

So I pulled out the driveshaft and inspected the U joints. They seem fine.

I then noticed the driveshaft has side-to-side "play" where it fits into the transmission tailshaft.
I am thinking that there is a bushing in the tailhousing that is worn. Should I start there? Or are there any other ideas on what I should look for or replace?

Also inspect the transmission mount. They can rip with age or get mushy when soaked in oil, but yes there is a bushing in the tail shaft.

Thanks. I just pulled out the transmision mount. It is not oil-soaked, and it is NOT broken. but it is looking very "stretched."
I assume this is the the root of the problem and will replace.
