Front CV Axles

Hi I own a 1999 Ford explorer and I'm gonna change the CV Axles on the front.It looks like the passenger side is longer then the driver side.The passenger side looks like there is a smooth axle going into the front diff only on the passenger side.so it looks longer is that correct.

From what I can tell, it is the left side that is about 3" longer than the right. Yes the right (passenger) side is smooth outside with internal teeth.
