The 2020 Police Interceptor Utility EcoBoost turned the fastest 0-60 mph (5.77 seconds) and 0-100 mph times (13.59 seconds) of all vehicles tested, including sedans. The EcoBoost also had the highest top speed of any vehicle tested, at 150 mph.

Ford was pleased with testing results, especially in comparison to its own vehicles.

The 2020 PIU EcoBoost was faster than last year’s 3.5L AWD EcoBoost performance 0-60 (0.5 seconds), 0-100 (2.0 seconds), best single lap (1.8 seconds), and best average lap (1.7 seconds), said Steve Tyler, police brand marketing manager for Ford.

The 2020 PIU hybrid turned in the second fastest 0-100 mph, second fastest lap, and second fastest average lap of all utility vehicles, including those with V-8 engines, only behind Ford’s PIU EcoBoost. It beat last year’s PIU 3.7L AWD performance 0-60 (0.5 seconds), 0-100 (2.2 seconds), best single lap (0.8 seconds), and best average lap (0.6 seconds), Tyler added.

“These proof points show we’re delivering on our promise of improved performance on 2020 PIU Hybrid vs. current PIU 3.7L AWD, and PIU EcoBoost vs. current PIU 3.5L AWD EcoBoost,” Tyler said. “We’re seeing the EcoBoost Utility take the top spots that PI Sedan used to take, and the hybrid Utility is testing faster than the remaining utility vehicles.”

Early comments seem to show Charger and Durango bested the PIU in braking for 2019 testing, whereas the 3.7L PIU was best in 2018 testing. page 69 of https://www.michigan.gov/documents/msp/2018MYPoliceVehicleEvaluationTestBookFINAL_606385_7.pdf

It appears the 2020 PIU will be STANDARD Hybrid now as a price increase for 2020 is significant. Although there are large discounts for Federal, State, and local bids the overall MSRP pricing will increase.

Hybrid standard and previous options are now standard equipment.

Here is an excerpt of a Ford description for 2020 MSRP pricing:

MSRP on the 2020 Police Interceptor Utility is $40,615, plus Destination and Delivery. The base price includes the gasoline-electric hybrid system, all-wheel drive, and over $2,000 in new standard equipment. New standard equipment for 2020MY includes:

-Ford Modem with 2-year complimentary Ford Telematics subscription

-Bluetooth pass-through voice commands to Siri or Android

-LED low and high beam headlamps, with factory-integrated wig-wag functionality and pre-drilled holes for user-installed warning strobes (high beam = new)

-4 user-configurable steering wheel switches

-Class III Trailer Tow Receiver, 5,000 lb capacity (please do not tow while in pursuit)

-Dual-Zone Electronic Climate Control

-Tilt and telescoping steering wheel (telescoping = new)

-Automatic on / off headlamps (reverts to last used position)

-Deep sand / snow traction control with on / off button in control panel

-Fuel savings of $3,500-$5,700 per year at $2.75-$4.50 per gallon, based on significant potential savings at idle and a 41% improvement in projected EPA-estimated fuel economy (details at Calculator Page)

For customers who elect not to save $3,500-$5,700 per year in fuel and 22,560 lbs of CO2 emissions per year, a hybrid delete option is available for a $3,595 MSRP credit.

We also have new options, such as factory-installed Police Perimeter Alert, which monitors approximately 270 degrees around the rear and sides of the vehicle for movement. The system uses an algorithm to determine of any movement is a threat, and when a potential threat is detected, the system will turn on the rear-view camera, sound a chime, roll up the windows and lock the doors. There is also a display in the instrument cluster that shows motion and threat level.

Rear Camera on Demand is a new option, which allows the rear camera to be turned on at an speed for any duration, to allow officers to view behind the vehicle.

We also have optional Automatic Emergency Braking, with a unique temporary disable switch for law enforcement, for an MSRP of $145. The temporary disable switch allows the system to be temporarily disabled in the event the driver needs to PIT or take other action.

Marketing. Just like AWD was standard on the PI Sedan, with FWD being a "credit option".
