Hi
Here is my steering wheel leather restoration report:
Purchased Ford medium camel colorant plus top coat on " Leather world tech"
1. First clean the steering wheel from dirt and previous dye evidence.use manufacturer leather preparation liquid
2. Wait for the moisture to fully dry.cover the wiring:
3. Use 3 bar touch up paint gun.make sure to use air filter
4. Ive built some kind of rotating jig .make sure not to scratch the aluminum hexoganal wheel hub hole.improvised and used kinda slide bushing on it.
5.clean the touch up gun between coats with water only.use face filter when painting.
6.use manufacturer dye colorant ( according to your interior color door code). 4 coats,25 minutes per coat
7.when finished use top color.same qty of coats and time.wait for 24hrs after last coat apply.
Last for approx 2-3 years then starting to peel and needs to be recolored again
If the leather is periodically recolored, the UV effect and the friction damage will theoretically never reach the bottom leather layer .
