I always thought it was called a "dust shield"?

    Testament to the old stuff!!

I will definitely add red head to my list of "stuff to get someday"! So far, other than replacing the pitman arm seal the other day, my factory gearbox has worked flawlessly for almost 560k! (Knock on wood!)

    Testament to the old stuff!!

I must be one of the lucky ones! Only time I had any steering slop was when my drag link joint took a crap on me! Had a quarter turn of slop for the ride home that day!😳

    Testament to the old stuff!!

Never had to look for a steering gear before, so I haven't heard of red head. Are they a more durable build quality than factory? For less than $300, seems like a bargain, if so!

    Testament to the old stuff!!

Yeah, they sure don't make em like they used to!! People are always shocked when I tell them that even the engine is all original only thing I've ever had to do (other than the 5-speed swap) is the lower intake gasket about 14 years ago! Everything else is all original. I know a lot of people...

    Testament to the old stuff!!

Just thinking about how durable and "forgiving" the older vehicles are. My 94 has a little over 550k on the clock. Steering pump and gear are original, never been touched. Last week, came out to find that my pitman arm seal on the gear had given up, dumping all the fluid on the ground! Happened...

    Rear driveshaft bolt torque again

As many times as I have removed mine, I have never used any threadlocker on them..... Just used the "good-n-tight" method. Never had one come loose, either!

    Manual Swap Problems

The idle speed was the only difference that I noticed when I did mine. I have heard that there are slight differences in timing advance or something, but I'm not positive. I eventually located the appropriate pcm and replaced the auto one, but I never had any CELs or anything.

What did YOU do to your Explorer today?

It was a breeze to install. Ran the rear camera wire along the interior trim panels to the mirror, and ran the power and gps antenna wires down the a-pillar and under the dash. It just straps onto your existing rear view mirror. Its been working great for me so far, and I really like the front...

What did YOU do to your Explorer today?

I put one of these in my 94 a couple of months ago. So far I am loving it!! I put the rear camera on the trim inside the rear window. It has a 170 degree field of view, so by the time the back end of a passing car is leaving the camera view, I can already see the front of it beside me...

Yup, brain fart!! Sorry about that, mistakenly thought this was for a 1st gen!

    Speedo Gear Gonzo

You don't have to take the transfer case apart!! All you have to do is 1. Remove rear driveshaft from the output flange. 2. Remove the flange itself.(I believe it's a 30mm nut.) 3. Pry out the output seal. 4. stick your finger in the speedometer hole and push out the aforementioned gear. (It...

    5 speed manual swap HELP!!!

Just an FYI, when i first did my M50D swap, i left the original pcm in there for about a year. Only issue you'll have (AFAIK) is that your idle speed will be a little high. If you try to use the 91 PCM, it won't run. the 91s had "batch fire", whereas the 94s are sequential. Just run the original...

    engine head swap in 2022

Weren't the smaller combustion chambers only on the SOHC engines? I thought that the OHV heads were the same?

Why does this keep happening? Brake pad problem

x2 on the slide pins! And 230k isn't time to give up, it's just getting broke in good!! I've got roughly 530k on mine right now, and still loving every minute!:D

What did YOU do to your Explorer today?

Not sure what happened, but after about 3 years, I lost 2nd gear in my junkyard M5OD-R1HD... Drove it like that for a week and a half till I had time to get to the junkyard and grab another one! Swapped it out saturday, and I'm back to 5 forward gears again! :) Also, just went past 525,000 miles...

    Front Suspension Alignment

This was from a quick google search. Not sure if it will help or not? http://www.jltechno.com/en/alignment_specs.php?brand=FORD%20TRUCK%20%20%20SUV(NA)&ModelName=Explorer,4X4&ModelID=302745

What did YOU do to your Explorer today?

glad you got it sorted out! When mine started doing that, it was because the ecu took a dump! no cel, no nothing. Just fell on it's face every time I hit the gas. Got to the point where it just refused to even start! I replaced the fuel pump, filter, coil pack, and fpr before i realized that it...

I actually used gorilla brand high-psi rated 2 part epoxy on mine. 2 years now! (knock on wood)

How many people have issues with their rear hatch gas shock supports in cold weather?

I believe I'm in the minority, but the supports on my 94 are the factory originals, and they still work as good as new! Even in the cold weather, all I have to do is give the liftgate a little tug, and it goes all the way up by itself!! Saying that, I'd go with motorcraft, or whatever the OEM...

    Bits and pieces of plastic.

also noticed we seem to have the same year, model, and trim level! Was yours a factory 5spd, or did you swap it? Swapped mine after the 5th A4LD blew it's guts out! Over 500k on the odometer now, and it just keeps going!:D

    Bits and pieces of plastic.

I had exactly the same situation!!! Mine did that a few months ago, and I haven't seen any effects from anything yet. The pieces I was finding in my floorboard looked exactly like yours. Looked kinda like the "bakelite" they used to make pan handles and stuff out of! Let me know if you discover...

    Alignment

If you have a "few" miles on it, I would replace the drag link, the tie rod ends, and the wheel bearings(if there's any play in those parts), and check your ball joints, as well. And x2 on tire pressure, that can make it pull to one side or the other.
