As compressor not kicking on

Hi all, my 99 expl. Sports act is blowing hot ... Was going to recharge but the compressor is not kicking on at all which means I'm told that it may be completely out of freon. How do I jump start the compressor in order to recharge the system... I know it's thru the relay fuse but not sure how to do it... Any help would greatly appreciated.

You can begin to charge the system without the compressor running. Attach the hose to your low side connector, and put the can of refrigerant in a bucket of hot tap water top side up. Let it go until the pressure equalizes between the can and system. That should be enough to get the compressor to kick on allowing you to fill the rest normally.
