What tool or size socket is used to remove the large locking nut on the exle when removing the front rotors on a 92 Explorer with the auto hubs?

Doing a brake job on my son's Eddie Bauer tonight and tomorrow so I need the info quickly. Thanks.

And now I have run into another problem. I can't remove the locking key between the spindle and the outer wheel bearing nut on either side. I have tried magnets, paper clips, dental picks, chisels, everything I can think of.

Any suggestions?

I did it a couple of weeks ago and asked about the wheel bearing locknut socket; here's the thread:

Dead Link Removed

As far as getting the keyway out, there may be some tension on it from the nut. When you get the socket, you may need to jiggle the nut to free it up. Once loose, I used a little pen magnet to pull it out with nary a problem. Good luck.

I did get the keys out finally and the nuts off with the old chisel and large pliers method. I am still going to get the socket from NAPA to have on hand.

Thanks for the help.

i bent up a paper clip an slid the piece out.....
