99 explorer replacement cost?

Have a 99 explorer w/ flat tow option that needs some engine & transmission work. What would be typical replacement value? Wondering if better to repair or replace? TIA

what engine and trans work is needed? typically, a remanned engine will run you say 2.5 grand, a trans 2 grand (rounding up) and labor maybe another 2-3 grand. when you do it would be best to replace a few odds and ends, say another grand.

to buy another one, a v8 awd good condition with around 150k here at least run around 3-4k

let us know what engine trans in it now, what needs to be done

It’s a V6. No neutral tow kit for the v8. Probably almost surely better off with a better vehicle than l fixing the drivetrain in a 99.
