Steering wheel buttons

A couple of my steering wheel buttons are starting to "rub away" and I'd like to replace them if it is easy enough. I like doing what I can without taking it in to dealer.
Is this something that's not too difficult? Is it on of those things that in order to replace one little thing it consists of taking apart the entire steering wheel.

This is the first I've read about this so there is nothing to refer to. Any work being done to the steering wheel would likely involve disconnecting the battery to prevent the airbag from deploying.
