what trans do i have

I have a 2000 ford ranger with a 3.0 automatic trans. I was thinking i have the 4r44e but now i am thinking i have a 5r44e?? Could some one tell me the differance between the 2. Thanks for your help.

Drive to 60mph, count the shifts. If it shifts 3 times you have the 4 speed, if it shifts 4 times you have the 5 speed.

Should be listed on the VIN diagram too I'd imagine.

Thank you but the problem is i have a shift issue and i am trying to figure out if i ordered the right seporator plate for the trans that i have. I also posted a question if there is a differance in the plates between the 4R and the 5R?? Thanks again
